RED CARPET ROLLED OUT AGAIN FOR THE MEDIA

Photos of the Red Carpet Awards 2010 are featured at the bottom of this page.

The eleventh Red Carpet Awards took place recently at Claridge's in London. Yet again there was a superb turn out with 154 journalists and representatives from the Carpet Foundation manufacturers and supporting Buying Groups in attendance.

Introduced in 2001 to encourage greater editorial coverage for carpet, the Red Carpets have proved one of the most successful initiatives for the Carpet Foundation. Considered one of the most prestigious Awards in the home interest market, they are keenly contested with journalists setting out to win an Award

The panel of judges included, for the first time, the well-known interior designer Sophie Conran and Vanessa Brady, President of the Society of British Interior Designers together with Sunday Times columnist and interior designer, Andrea Maflin, John Smigielski and Louise Anton. The standard of entries was as high as ever and competition was fierce.

The following Awards were given out:

Best Makeover - House Beautiful Dec/Jan 2011 Denise Brock
Best Online Article - allaboutyou.com Carol Muskoron
Best Shopping Item - Homes & Gardens Luisa Ferdenzi
Best Use of carpet in a Decorating/interior scheme - Country Homes & Interiors February 2011 Carol Wortley-Bishop
Best Article/Feature - Homes & Gardens February 2011 Caroline Rodrigues

Rupert Anton, Carpet Foundation spokesperson, said: "If ever people wanted proof that we are the pro-active interface between the UK carpet industry and the media, this is it! We punch well above our weight in terms of the column inches given over to carpet throughout the year. As someone said to me this year - this has to be the best investment made by the Carpet Foundation.

The Awards have transformed how carpet is viewed and covered in the press. you do not have to be Nostradamus to read the warning signs with a fragile economy and soft housing market so it is all the more important that we as an industry continue to promote ourselves and keep carpet in the public domain.
