Why Choose Carpet? What Fibre? Your Questions Answered
Your Questions Answered
If you want a rough idea, measure the length and the width of the room at their widest points and multiply the two together. This will give you an idea as to the quantity involved. This is relatively straightforward if your room is square, but can be exceptionally complicated for hall, stairs and landings and where alcoves and fireplaces are involved.
Our recommendation would be to leave it to the retailer - they should do it for free and without obligation.
What do I need to consider before buying my carpet?
The main points to consider are:
Tip: Always ask your retailer for a sample to take home to see in your own environment.
Should I buy new underlay?
Yes. New underlay will make your carpet more comfortable underfoot and prolong
its life by up to forty per cent. Underlay will also stop the carpet from rucking up and
will act as a heat and sound insulator.
Can I lay the carpet myself?
We do not recommend it. Fitting requires specialist tools and is best left to a
professional.
What is the difference between a twist and a velvet pile carpet?
On a like for like basis - absolutely nothing. The difference is purely aesthetic.
Can I clean carpet myself?
All carpets benefit from a thorough clean from time to time. If you want to do this,
you should use a specialist shampoo or powder or hire a steam cleaner. Once cleaned,
leave the carpet to dry thoroughly before walking on it or replacing furniture.
Alternatively, contact the National Carpet Cleaners Association on 0116 271 9550.
Can I buy stainfree carpets?
Yes.
Always ask for a carpet manufactured by a member of The Carpet Foundation -
it is your assurance of quality and suitability.
